MLB Player Pool Salary Will Give Some Minor Leaguers A Pay Bump

MLB instructed all 30 teams to pay their minor leaguers $400 per week through May 31 after the minor league season was postponed, and all 30 teams eventually committed to extending those payments through at least June 30. That commitment came with fits and starts, however. The A’s initially announced they would not continue paying their minor leaguers past May 31 and the Nationals initially cut the payments to $300 per week before reversing those decisions.

As summer camps get set to open and teams announce their 60-man player pools, the decision to pay minor leaguers is once again the docket. While the minor league season officially remains postponed and has not yet been canceled, the expectation is an announcement in the coming days will officially cancel the season. If that happens, minor leaguers who are not on their teams’ 60-man player pools will not be paid unless teams decide to extend their current commitments.

Some teams have already taken that step. The Rangers, Rays and White Sox recently announced they will extend their $400 per week payments to minor leaguers through the end of July. The Cubs and Pirates informed BA they will do the same.

Nine teams previously announced they would pay their minor leaguers through roughly the end of the season. The Blue Jays, Cardinals, Giants and Orioles joined in making that pledge in recent weeks. The Mets, Nationals and Phillies informed BA they will do the same.

Here are the dates through which each team has committed to paying its minor league players. This list will be updated as teams announce their plans.
